Cruising Europe's Rivers
One of the most pleasant (and efficient) ways to explore the beautiful cities and country sides of Europe is to board a handsome riverboat to cruise along the rivers and canals of the European countryside – it's amazing how much of Europe's best sights are situated along or near these waterways.
Instead of sitting for hours on a bus, you can enjoy the scenic countryside from the open sun deck, perhaps with a glass of wine in hand. You're always close enough to land to wave at the locals or, in some cases, exchange a greeting.
Typically your vessel berths in the very heart of a city or community so that a few steps bring you to the best sights. When you go ashore, outstanding local guides show you their city or village with great pride. Or, on good riverboats, you can take one of the boat's bicycles ashore to explore the area on your own.
In terms of travel ease, once you board the river boat, you only unpack once – isn't that a treat? Delicious dining awaits you throughout the day and a knowledgeable English-speaking staff is there to help you get the most from your journey.
It's no wonder that travel on Europe's rivers is growing so rapidly. (We particularly appreciate that so much is included in the fare – including many amenities available only at extra cost on cruise ships.)
Our Expertise
Over two decades, we've cruised perhaps 15-20 times on Europe's rivers. Those cruises have taken place on 10-12 different vessels ranging from standard to deluxe. We'll discuss the differences and help you find the right riverboat to fit your preferences and budget.
